Hurricane Michael in October caused severe damage to Florida and the entire Gulf Coast. The storm was a Category 4 hurricane with winds up to 155 miles an hour. It decimated the Panhandle. It flooded several counties, swept cars onto rooftops, and decimated trees.
The Red Cross, in partnership and with government and community partners has provided assistance to hundreds upon thousands of people who were affected by the hurricane. As families recover from this devastating natural disaster, we are providing food and support.
Our partners reacted quickly to the disaster and are now present in affected communities in Florida Georgia and Alabama. They offer shelter and food to survivors in desperate need.
Long-term World Vision Partners are delivering pre-positioned supplies in hard-hit zones, and more are on the way. Long-term partner organisations are also providing assistance in rescue efforts and emergency care throughout the affected region.

Second Harvest of Central Florida volunteers are packing food boxes to be sent to hurricane-affected families. They are also creating hygiene kits to distribute to children.
Save the Children will provide portable cribs for hurricane victims and baby wipes for those who need them. Florida Urgent Rescue (a nonprofit that provides rescue and medical care for animals as well as fostering and adoption services) is providing assistance with animal evacuations.
More than ever, Hurricane Michael survivors need shelter, food, water, and supplies. Your donations will allow us to provide these essential items and more for those whose lives have been ravaged by the powerful hurricane.
The American Red Cross has been a trusted companion to local governments in the areas affected by Hurricane Sandy. Red Cross volunteers and employees are there to provide critical assistance for survivors in their time-of-need.
Red Cross Panama City and local chapters have offered their assistance to individuals and families in need of temporary shelter, food, and water. They have given out more than 33.900 meals and 169,000 supplies to hurricane victims.

Our partner organization Second Harvest of the Big Bend, in addition to providing food for victims, has also deployed truckloads of food. They are also coordinating with local and state emergency operations centers to aid the 11-county area. We are also working alongside state and local emergency officials on a comprehensive relief program that includes emergency ready to eat meals, distribution and partners.
Our partners are helping to respond to the needs of the people affected by Hurricane Michael. They offer shelter and food to those who are most in need.
Individuals in need may make a cash donation on GlobalGiving to the Hurricane Michael Disaster Fund. This will provide financial support for survivors and community-led recovery.
FAQ
How to Navigate With or Without a Compass?
Although it doesn't give you a map of where you are heading, a compass can help you navigate back home if your bearings have been lost.
Three different ways you can navigate are available:
-
By landmarks
-
Use a compass to find magnetic North
-
By stars
Landmarks can be objects you recognize as soon as you see them. They are trees, buildings or rivers. Landmarks can be useful because they are a visual indicator of where you're at.
Magnetic North is simply the direction in which the Earth's magnetic field points. The sun appears to be moving across sky if you look up. The earth's magnetic field actually causes sun to move around. So, while the sun seems to move across the sky, it really moves around the horizon. At noon, the sun is directly overhead. At midnight, the sun is directly below you. Because the earth's magnet field is constantly changing, the exact position of the magnetic North Pole changes every day. This means that sometimes you may be off course for quite a while.
Another method of navigating is using stars. Stars rise and set above the horizon. These are points in space you can use to find your exact location relative to other locations.
